Duck race cancelled over red tape

The BBC reports that a duck race has been cancelled due to red tape.

New saftey concerns have meant that the local council requested a road closure before the Duck Race could take place, yet they were not prepared to fund it, and the organisers cannot afford to pay the £3000 required as it would impact too much on the money they plan to raise for charity.

Council to fine duck over-feeders

The BBC reports that a council is to fine duck over-feeders.

Park visitors in Leicester are leaving too much food for the ducks, and consequently attracting vermin to the park. Signs are being errected to warn them about the new fines.

The ducks most likey to carry bird flu

The BBC reports on The species of ducks most likley to carry bird flu into the UK.

They are the Bewick's Swan, Mallard, Pintail, Pochard, Shoveler, Teal, Tufted Duck, White-Fronted Goose, Whooper Swan, and Wigeon.

Monitor ducks at your university for avian flu

With Avian flu now having a presence in the UK it is more important that ever to look out for signs of any dead birds at your university. Frequent counting of the ducks at your university can help monitor the numbers to ensure no sudden population changes are taking place. If you find any dead wildfowl please remember to report them to Defra
